Moving to a larger nominal diameter can create more radial room, but the spokes may remain close to the caliper face. A face with more outward curvature may clear the caliper while the barrel still contacts its outer edge.
Radial clearance is more than wheel diameter
The tight point is often where the caliper's outer edge approaches the inner barrel. A larger rotor moves the caliper farther from the hub center. The wheel's drop center, barrel steps, and reinforcement transitions can reduce room in places that a simple inside-diameter measurement misses.
Inspect the full path around the brake assembly. Adhesive balance weights occupy barrel space and need a usable mounting location. Valve hardware, fasteners, and caliper bridge features also matter. Clearance at one clock position does not prove that the complete rotating wheel is clear.
Visible daylight on a parked car is not a specification. Use the minimum margin required by the wheel maker or brake-system manufacturer for the exact components. Manufacturing tolerances, bearing movement, heat, and wheel deflection make a designed margin necessary.
Axial clearance depends on the back of the wheel face
Measure axial clearance from the hub-mounting plane toward the back of the spokes. A caliper can extend outward far enough to touch a spoke even when the barrel has plenty of room. A wheel's front appearance does not reveal this space.
Offset influences the wheel's position on the car, but wheel makers can produce the same offset with different mounting-pad and spoke shapes. One design may curve away from the caliper near the hub; another may stay flatter. Compare the proposed wheel profile with the brake envelope.
Check the caliper bridge, bleeder area, and any raised lettering or hardware that forms the outermost point. Measure from the clean hub face, with rust scale or debris removed. A wheel that seats against contamination can give a false impression during a test fit.

Reducing positive offset or adding a spacer can move the back of the spokes away from the caliper face. It cannot create radial barrel clearance. It also moves the wheel and tire outward, changes hub and fastener requirements, and reduces available fender room.
